HP chairman steps down over identity theft spat 
HP 's chairwoman Patricia Dunn has been forced to step down after the company admitted that it committed several cases of identity theft. Dunn is scheduled to step down as chairman of the board of directors in January 2007 and will be succeeded by HP's chief executive Mark Hurd.

Clarification 
In the Sept. 12 article "No ID theft seen in breach of aid info," the *DI* incorrectly reported that no identity theft resulted from the software-upgrade error. The organization has not received any reports of information being used inappropriately.

AT&T Statement on Coalition to Combat Identity Theft and Fraud 
The American National Standards Institute and Better Business Bureau system today announced the creation of the Identity Theft Prevention and Identity Management Standards Panel, which is a partnership with a cross-sector team of companies to create a single resource of standards and guidelines that businesses and other organizations can use to prevent and respond to identity theft and fraud.
